Burglar who carried out series of break-ins gets 10-month suspended sentence

A BURGLAR who carried out a series of break-ins at premises in Clondalkin got a 10-month suspended sentence in Blanchardstown District Court.

In one of the break-ins, Joseph O’Shaughnessy (30) made off with over €6,000 worth of property from a Harley Davidson dealership.

O’Shaughnessy, with addresses at Clifden Road and Cherry Orchard Drive, both Ballyfermot, pleaded guilty to burgling Harley Davidson, Red Cow Business Centre, Clondalkin, on November 15, 2015, to burgling Woodie’s DIY, Naas Road, on November 21, 2015, to burgling Bikeworld, Long Mile Road, on November 22, 2015, and to the attempted burglary of Modern Plant, Naas Road, on a date between December 5 and December 16, 2015.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Judge David McHugh that on December 16, 2015, the gardai responded to a call about a burglary at Modern Plant on the Naas Road.

She said O’Shaughnessy had attempted to break into the premises through a side window.

She said that on November 21, 2015, O’Shaughnessy broke into Woodie’s DIY on the Naas Road and he stole three torches and two Bosch drills.

On November 22, 2015, O’Shaughnessy broke into Bikeworld on the Long Mile Road and on November 15, 2015, he broke into Harley Davidson at the Red Cow Business Park and he stole goods worth €6,242.78.

Sgt Callaghan said O’Shaughnessy has 23 previous convictions.

O’Shaughnessy’s solicitor, Fiona D’arcy said her client had been working well with the probation services.

Judge McHugh sentenced O’Shaughnessy to 10 months jail, suspended for two years.
