IRISH people, and who still live locally or live abroad, are being invited by Minister of State for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora, Colm Brophy TD, to take part in his new To Be Irish at Christmas initiative, reports Aideen O’Flaherty.

Minister Brophy, a Fine Gael TD for Dublin South-West, launched the initiative on Monday, which consists of an online platform for people to share and swap their own memories of Irish Christmases by posting videos of songs and stories, and recounting memories.

The initiative’s website,, also has a catalogue of small Irish businesses that people can purchase gifts from for loved ones at home and abroad.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Brophy said: “Christmas 2020 will be different in many ways, but no matter where we are in the world, it will be a time when we think of those we love the most.

“I am looking forward to the To Be Irish at Christmas initiative which will help the Irish all over the world connect with each other.

“I hope that many people will take part by submitting their songs, stories, memories or hopes for the year ahead.”

People are being encouraged to submit short video submissions, of between 30 to 60 seconds, from families, friends, and individuals around the world.
