Planning for housing scheme for elderly on ‘Glue Pot’ land

By Maurice Garvey

PLANS have been lodged for a housing scheme for the elderly in Clondalkin, at a site on part of the former Clondalkin Paper Mills Pitch and Putt Club property.

Applicant Rhonellen Properties Ltd is seeking permission for the construction of 99 apartments at the Mill Lane site.

Plans contain proposals for a community housing scheme for the elderly arranged in four blocks of one to five storeys.

The scheme comprises 76 one-bed apartments, 21 two-bed apartments and two studio apartments.

In 2016, The Echo reported how financial difficulties forced the pitch and putt club to place some of their land on the market.

Clondalkin Paper Mills Sports and Social Club were selling nine of their 18 holes in an effort to pay bills and maintain finances going ahead.

Two lots were put up for sale with guide prices of €695,000 for a 3.61 acre site, and €595,000 for a 2.14 acre site.

The clubhouse and bar – known locally as the Glue Pot – were not included in the sale.

The Echo understands one of the lots was subsequently bought by developers.

Negotiations are still ongoing

The Echo also understands negotiations are still ongoing between the club and developers.

A committee meeting is due to take place in the coming weeks to iron out plans for development of the site.

According to the plans lodged with South Dublin County Council, the total gross floor area of the proposal is 8,229 sq m.

The subject site is bounded to the north by the River Camac, to the south by Mill Lane to the east by the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and pitch and putt clubhouse/bar known as the Glue Pot and to the west by Clondalkin Leisure Centre.

All associated site development works are included in the proposal.
