1,300 people registered homeless over Christmas

THERE were over 1,300 adults and children registered as homeless in the county over Christmas.

The figures were revealed at the January meeting of South Dublin County Council. Councillor Carly Bailey tabled a question asking how many individuals, families and children “were officially recorded as homeless over the Christmas 2019 period.”

Cllr Bailey also asked how many of these were asked to vacate their emergency accommodation during that time.

Up to the end of December 2019, the council said there were 588 households on their homeless list, made up of 277 single males, 57 single females, 13 couples and 241 families. There were 727 adults and 583 children on their homeless list.

The council added: “Emergency accommodation was available for all homeless persons who required it over the Christmas period.”
