Judge Gerard Jones granted him bail and remanded him in custody until he is able to take bail up.

The accused, aged 22, with an address at Arthur Griffith Park, Lucan is charged with two burglaries, and trespassing and interfering with the mechanism of a vehicle in other incidents in Lucan.

The charges relate to alleged incidents at addresses at Esker Meadow Green, Ballyowen Green, Elderberry and Brookfield, Lucan, on May 26. A garda objected to bail and told Judge Jones the occupants of the burgled houses were at home and asleep at the time. They were woken up and in one case did not go downstairs.

In the other, the garda said, the occupant came down to “defend his property and ward off the burglars”.

It was alleged a car captured on CCTV being used in a burglary was located near the accused’s home the morning after when he was arrested.

Terence Hanhoe solicitor, applying for bail for Mr Rogers, said his client was presumed innocent and would abide by bail conditions.

Judge Jones granted bail to include an independent surety of €1,500, with conditions that the accused is under curfew at night, signs on daily at his local garda station and provides a contact phone number to the gardai.
