A presentation by Dart+ South West at the recent Dublin South Central area meeting focused on the electrification of the Heuston to Hazelhatch route.

The objectives of the Dart+ Programme are to provide higher frequency and higher capacity electrified rail services, creating a full metropolitan DART network with all lines linked and connected.

While the current Dart network extends from Malahide/Howth to Greystones along 50km railway corridor, the Dart+ Programme seeks to increase the electrification to 150km of railway corridor.

Objectives of the plan are to improve accessibility to jobs, education, unlock regeneration and to deliver an efficient, sustainable, low carbon and climate resilient rail network.

The presentation of the South West Kildare line outlines the need to complete tracking from Parkwest to Heuston, bridge improvements/re-builds and addressing constraints within the Phoenix Park tunnel to support increased frequency of trains.

The plan is due to go to public consultation in the first half of 2021.
