Doyle was before Judge Hughes for a community service report.

Doyle, aged 52, of no fixed abode and with a last known address at Moyglass Road, Lucan, had pleaded guilty to having no insurance and no driving licence at Cloverhill Road, Clondalkin, on July 16, 2018.

The court had heard that on July 16, 2018, the gardai had been operating a checkpoint on Cloverhill Road and stopped Doyle. He was driving an Opel Astra, his insurance disc was out of date and it was for another car.

Doyle was asked to produce his driving licence and he had none. The car was seized and Doyle was arrested and taken to Clondalkin Garda Station.

The court had heard that Doyle had received a four-year ban for no insurance in Blanchardstown Court in 2018. He had also been sentenced to 15 years in the Central Criminal Court on July 19, 2002, for manslaughter and robbery.

Judge Hughes read the community service report. He told Doyle’s counsel that he was concerned about Doyle’s suitability for community service as he is currently homeless.

Doyle’s counsel said Doyle is living in hostels but is willing to do community service and to work with the Probation Services.

Judge Hughes told Doyle to work with the Probation Services. He imposed a four-year driving ban and sentenced the defendant to 120 hours community service with four months jail in default.
