OVER €30,000 has been raised for the Marie Keating Foundation at a golf classic and raffle held in memory of Lisa Dalton.

Lucan woman Lisa passed away last September at the age of 35 following a year-long battle with breast cancer, she is survived by her loving husband Conor and their two young children, now aged eight and four.

Lisa was a long-time supporter of the Marie Keating Foundation, and before she passed away she requested that at her funeral donations should be made to the foundation in lieu of flowers.

Her husband Conor, who organised the golf classic which was held in Castleknock Golf Club, told The Echo: “Between all the local support we got, especially in Lucan itself, the money spiralled and spiralled.”

Conor said that when he was choosing a target for how much he would like to raise, he was advised to choose a “realistic” figure as it was only the first year of the golf classic.

His original target was €7,000, but he raised over three times that amount as a result of the golf classic, a large raffle and a number of other fundraisers held in Lisa’s name.

Conor presented the cheque to Linda Keating from the Marie Keating Foundation this week, and he added: “It’s nice to know that the €30,000 is going to help some families.

“People have been so supportive. It is overwhelming to think how much people care.”

Lisa also continues to be remembered by her former employer, UCD, which has named an award after her which will be presented every year to the second-year Pharmacology student who receives highest marks.

Looking to the future of the Lisa Dalton Golf Classic following the success of this year’s event, Conor said: “I don’t think it’s going to be a one-off, I think it’s something we’re going to continue to do in Lisa’s honour.”
