A VIRTUAL music festival is set to take place on Friday, August 28, courtesy of Liffey Sound 96.4 FM.

Up to 30 musical acts are scheduled to take part in the event, which takes place from 6pm to midnight on Friday, and will be streamed live on the station’s Facebook page and broadcast on 96.4 FM.

“We are overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from the community and blown away by the calibre of acts who submitted videos,” said, Mairéad Cullen, Station Manager, Liffey Sound 96.4 FM.

“We’ve all genres of music, classical, rock, rap, DJ sessions, Lucan Gospel Choir, Sea of Change Choir, and spoken word performances.”

Covid-19 laid waste to the Lucan station’s annual charity fundraising efforts, so this festival was created to try and fill that gap and provide a platform for local artistic talent.

Ms Cullen continued: “Like so many other not-for-profit organisations, Liffey Sound 96.4 FM, Lucan’s community radio station may not be able to host our traditional fundraisers this year due to the Covid pandemic.

So, we came up with the idea of a virtual festival.

“We also saw it as an opportunity to give a platform to local artists, budding artists and artists from the wider Dublin area. It’s great to get such a fantastic reaction from people of all ages and across all genres.

It is going to be an amazing event and it really encompasses the essence of community radio.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the event, residents can make a donation at http://liffeysoundfm.ie/
