€300k Have Your Say participatory budget focuses on Tallaght Central

SOUTH Dublin County Council has committed to its 300K Have Your Say participatory budget for 2021, which this year focuses on Tallaght Central.

A local democratic process, €300k Have Your Say invites the local community to directly decide on how to spend a portion of the public budget in their area.

In 2021, those living in Tallaght Central will be given the chance to decide on projects for their area, and can determine how to spend up to €300k to improve their community.

Projects can be suggested and then voted on through a public ballot.

Due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, last year’s project roll-out in Tallaght Central was postponed.

However, this week the council committed to the initiative in 2021 and is investigating ways to hold an event online to connect with the community.

In 2017, South Dublin County Council became the first local authority nationwide to adopt a participatory budget through a pilot programme in Lucan.

In 2018 and 2019, the electoral areas of Clondalkin and Firhouse Bohernabreena respectively engaged in the €300k participatory budget scheme.

The project was also shortlisted at the Europe-wide  Innovation in Politics award ceremony in 2018.
