Council splash out on swimming pool funding

By Echo Reporter

CRUMLIN Swimming Pool has received some funding from Dublin City Council to extend their opening hours.

The pool was extensively refurbished and re-opened in 2014. However, a lack of public opening hours irked local residents – attributed to “lack of finances” by council chiefs.

A fund of €35,000 has been allocated to extend the hours for Crumlin Swimming Pool in the Crumlin/Kimmage area.

The Echo reported in February how Ballyfermot/ Drimnagh and Crumlin/ Kimmage were set for a €450,000 windfall, which will benefit groups, clubs and amenities.

The money was previously used annually for public works. Independent councillor Vincent Jackson suggested the idea of a discretionary fund – agreed by members.

Each electoral area is to receive €450,000, which is split between various community and sports groups and clubs.

Sinn Féin councillor Ray McHugh today welcomed the extension of public opening hours at Crumlin Swimming Pool.

Cllr McHugh said: “Following agreement on the distribution of discretionary funding, Crumlin pool will now be open every Saturday from 10 am to 6pm.”

Cllr McHugh also welcomed funding for the development of open spaces in the Captains/Cashel Avenue area.

“This development will cost in the region of €200,000. I have been campaigning for this for many years. I am delighted both of these developments will go ahead.”

He also welcomed the distribution of a 2016 discretionary fund to revamp the playground at Seagull Flats, and seating for Pearse Park, Stanaway Pk and Brickfield Park.
