THE South Dublin Environmental Network’s second monthly meeting in St Maelruain’s Community Hall last month saw several local environmental groups come together to tease out the aims and goals of the newly-formed network.

Representatives from Dodder Valley Litter Mugs, Dodder Action, the Crumlin Clean-Up group, Clondalkin Tidy Towns, Friends of the Camac, The Four Districts Woodland Group, the South Dublin County Public Participation Network and the Irish Environmental Network were in attendance.

Christine Barretto, founder of the Dodder Valley Litter Mugs and a member of Dodder Action, told The Echo: “We discussed biodiversity and the need for a focused biodiversity officer in South Dublin County Council.

“We also discussed plans for events to raise awareness, and we listened to and noted all groups’ events and compiled a list of the events for dissemination. We discussed our roles and mission.

“There is a definite feeling of collaboration and development of a strategy to strengthen all efforts regarding the environment.”

Anyone who is interested in participating in the network can go along to the group’s next meeting on Tuesday, February 25, in St Maelruain’s on Tallaght’s Main Street at 7.30pm.

You can keep up to date with the group by following the South Dublin Environmental Network on Twitter and Facebook.
