FIVE members of St Mary’s Gaelic Football Club have tested positive for Covid-19, with the club believing they contracted the disease through community transmission.

Having initially suspended all activity until August 28 after three adult members returned positive results for the coronavirus following tests, the Saggart club have been informed of an additional two cases.

With St Mary’s confirming the news online last Saturday night, that brings the total of positive cases within the club to five.

As a result, all club related activity has been suspended until next week.

In a statement signed off by Chairman of St Mary’s GFC, Colman Andrews, they used the notice to urge members to download the HSE’s COVID Tracker Ireland app for mobile.

“Unfortunately club activity will remain suspended until midnight on Monday 7th September for the safety of all of our club members, their families and the wider community.

“The club has been informed of two more positive cases amongst adult members, bringing the total to five, we believe members contracted the virus through community transmission and are not associated with training or matches at the club premises.

“We would urge all members and their families to download the HSE Covid Tracker App.”

COVID Tracker Ireland is a free app for mobile phones that alerts users if they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

Sped-up contact tracing, symptom tracking, news and advice are some of the other key functions of the app.

The app was downloaded by 1.65million people in Ireland but following a technical fault in early-August, a large portion of people deleted it.

Although according to recent reports, the HSE have moved to reassure people that the app is back in tip-top shape and fully operational.
