Head chef hits the sweet spot with all our senior citizens

By Maurice Garvey

A CHEF who cooks up a storm for the elderly and vulnerable groups on a regular basis, brought a little Christmas cheer to senior citizens last week.

Keith Kenny, head chef and franchise restaurant owner of 19 @ Lucan Golf Club, provides weekly soup deliveries to homeless support groups in Ballyfermot and in Lucan Village.

He also provides food to an elderly group in Lucan, and hosts a couple of senior citizen events in his restaurant twice a year.

Last week, the restaurant hosted its senior citizens’ Christmas party at the 19.

Keith put out a special invitation to an elderly resident who featured in a recent Irish Times article.

The article focused on isolated elderly Lucan resident Barbara (83) who felt disconnected from society and had limited contact with people.

After a friend informed him about the moving piece, Keith felt compelled to reach out to the woman and contacted the paper.

Keith said: “I left my details with them and two weeks later she got in touch. I said if you ever need anything, we are just up the road, and invited her up to lunch and the Christmas party.

“I’ve been doing these things for five years. She definitely left the party knowing more people than when she arrived. Staff worked for free, a choir from Adamstown Community College performed, and all attendees went home with gifts.”

Originally from Carlow, Keith secured the franchise for 19 @ Lucan Golf Club Restaurant eight years ago, and has been supporting elderly residents and homeless groups for years.

In October, The 19 @ Lucan Golf Club won best golf club restaurant in UK and Ireland at the Yes Chef awards.
The recently refurbished restaurant is open six days a week, and you don’t have to be a member of the golf club to eat there.
