Man allegedly told Garda that he would ‘wipe the floor with him and destroy him’

A MAN who allegedly threatened to “cut up and feed to wild dogs” a female garda has pleaded not guilty, Tallaght Court has heard.

Derek Curran also allegedly threatened to kill Garda Fionnuala Whelan’s colleague, Garda Dara Kelly.

The threats were allegedly made when Curran called Rathfarnham Garda Station 41 times over a three-hour period.

Curran, aged 49, with an address at  Whitebrook Road, Rathfarnham, is charged with making a threat to kill Garda Kelly at Rathfarnham Garda Station on a date between September 19 and September 20, 2016.

He is also charged with making a threat to kill Garda Whelan and harassing Garda Whelan at Rathfarnham Garda Station both on a date between September 19 and September 20, 2016.

The court had heard it will be alleged that from 10.30pm to 1.20am on September 19 and 20, 2016, Curran called the public office in Rathfarnham Garda station using a mobile 41 times. Curran allegedly told Garda Kelly that he would "travel up to Dublin to get him " and that he would "wipe the floor with him and would destroy him". He allegedly told Garda Whelan  that he would "cut her up and feed her to wild dogs".

 Curran's solicitor, Eddie O'Connor, told Judge Patricia McNamara that his client was pleading not guilty. Judge McNamara read out the charges to Curran and he pleaded not guilty to each one. 

Sergeant Michael Ahern said he thought the case would take an hour to be heard.

Judge McNamara remanded Curran on continuing bail to a date at the end of November for hearing.
