Only 15 houses built by council in the last three years

A TOTAL of 15 houses have been built by South Dublin County Council over the last three years from 2014-16.

Independent councillor Francis Timmons asked for the latest housing build figures at the council meeting this week, enquiring “what is the delay.”

In response, the council stated no houses were built in 2014 and 2015, and a total of 15 were built in 2016 – with 10 houses built at Suncroft, Tallaght, three Traveller accommodation units in Belgard, and two houses at St Finian’s, Lucan.

SDCC says a total of 11 housing projects – containing approximately 294 houses – are currently progressing through the cost approvals process with the Department of Housing Planning Community and Local Government.

To date, final cost approval on contractor costs have been granted on two projects in Clondalkin for 29 units.

Construction for St Mark’s Green (11 units) and Mayfield Estate (18 units), is due to commence this month.

A total of eight projects which have Part 8 approval, are at various stage of cost approvals.

These include 40 units at Ballyboden, Rathfarnham, 37 units at Letts Field, Neilstown, and 28 units in Killinarden.

A further three Rapid Build projects are pending Part 8 planning approval which are included in SDCC rapid build targets for completion in late 2017/early 2018.

These are located at Oldcastle Road, Clondalkin (50 units), Kilininny, Tallaght (24) and St Cuthbert’s, Clondalkin (59).

Another Rapid Build project at St Aidan’s, Tallaght (85 units) is currently out to tender for build and design contractor.
