This June, cyclists took to the road to raise money for the refurbishment of two family rooms within the hospital, which are designed to provide families with a quiet and peaceful environment to meet members of the team caring for a loved one.

The rooms also enable family members to stay overnight if their loved one is seriously ill or dying.

In June, the cycle took off from Tallaght University Hospital, with cyclists having the option of a 50km route or 99km.

According to Ann Hickey, the hospital’s End of Life co-ordintor: “I wish to acknowledge the incredible support from colleagues and the wider community for their support of our End of Life Care Service.

“The target was ambitious and I am delighted it has been achieved and I and the staff on Crampton and Maguire Wards where the family rooms will be located are most grateful.

“The monies will go towards an enhanced care experience for our patients and families making a real difference to the quality of service we can provide.”
