Ailbhe’s Delight: Musician shortlisted for RTE Choice music prize Irish album

By Aideen O'Flaherty

Terenure musician Ailbhe Reddy is among the ten artists who’ve been shortlisted for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year 2020.

Despite 2020 being a difficult year for many musicians, there was no shortage of arresting albums being released by Irish artists.

For Ailbhe Reddy, it was the year when she released her well received debut album ‘Personal History’, which bristles with vulnerability and looks at communication woes and relationships in the modern age, driven by her commanding vocals and alt-folk sound.

‘Personal History’ is one of ten albums that were whittled down to the shortlist of the Choice Music Prize, which has become one of the Irish music industry’s highlights since its inception in 2005.

When asked about how she felt about her album being in the running for the award, Ailbhe told The Echo: “I am so elated!

“It’s so wonderful to see such a great shortlist, especially one that includes so many women.

“It’s a privilege to be nominated alongside so many people I admire so much!”

Other artists that feature on the shortlist include Pillow Queens, Fontaines DC, Bitch Falcon, Denise Chaila, JyellowL, Róisín Murphy, Nealo, Niamh Regan, and Silverbacks.

The RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year 2020 will be announced live on RTÉ 2FM in a special Tracy Clifford Show from 12pm to 3pm on Thursday, March 4, and it will be broadcast live on RTÉ Player.

The show will feature live performances from some of the shortlisted acts, and further details on the line-up to be announced soon.

The winning act will receive a €10,000 prize fund which has been provided by The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and The Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA). All shortlisted acts will receive a specially commissioned award.
