Children’s Hospital benefits from pub fundraiser night

By Mary Dennehy

THE staff of the Killinarden House took on their customers in an epic challenge that last weekend saw €2,650 raised for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.

The newly refurbished Killinarden House, which includes a new kitchen, was the location for a series of extreme challenges last Saturday, which saw staff go head to head with customers in a number of events including a wax-off, a Freddie Mercury lip sync, Pie Face and a ‘mummy’ challenge - which tasked competitors with creating a mummy out of toilet roll in the quickest time.

Pub manager Michelle Redmond told The Echo: “It was a great night and we lost count of who was winning what because there was that much craic.

“We’ll have to go with a tie between staff and customers.

“The night was a real success and raised €2,650 for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.

“Big thanks to all of the staff and the customers who participated and to the local community and local businesses who all came on board to support the night. It was a whole community effort.”

She added: “We decided to raise money for the children’s hospital as there are lots of young children living in the area and I think that most families would have some sort of a connection to the hospital.”

The Killinarden House recently underwent a refurbishment, which included the introduction of a new kitchen – which will open this Sunday, Sep 17, at 12.30pm.

Michelle told The Echo that the kitchen will initially only open for carvery on Sundays but that its food offering will be developed over the coming months.

To celebrate the new look pub and its new kitchen, an opening night is being held this Sunday 17, with Whose Eddie taking to the stage. All are welcome.
