Echo Christmas tree competition winner

By Aideen O'Flaherty

A Lucan family has won this year’s Echo Christmas Tree competition, which saw people in the local area send us pictures of their Christmas trees to be in with a chance of winning a €100 shopping voucher.

Karl Nicholson, who lives in Lucan with his fiancée Lisa Leonard and their children Hannah (5) and Hayley (3), usually decorates the Christmas tree by himself, but this year his daughters gave him a helping hand – and the family won this year’s competition.

Karl told The Echo: “We always put the Christmas tree up before the Toy Show, when we’re all wearing matching Christmas pyjamas and we all have hot chocolate.

“We also put decorations up around the house and out in the garden.”

Karl added that the decorations are a key part of Christmas for his family, as it helps to mark the festivities of his favourite time of the year.

When asked about what he enjoys about the Christmas season, he said: “It’s great for myself and Lisa to get to spend so much time with the kids.”

The Echo received numerous entries through Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for the annual competition, thanks to everyone who entered.
