Hardware shop to be a WALK day service centre

By Aideen O'Flaherty

PERMISSION has been granted for the change of use of Liam’s Hardware shop on the Galtymore Road in Drimnagh to instead house a day-services centre for WALK – the Walkinstown Association for People with an Intellectual Disability.

WALK lodged an application with Dublin City Council last June, outlining plans for the change of use of the shop and for the incorporation of a new single-storey extension in the rear yard of the building.

The proposal included plans for the conversion of the existing rear stores to toilet facilities, offices, and open-plan areas – provision for internal alterations to the existing shop is also included.

New signage to existing shop front and manifestations to existing shop windows, all at 135 Galtymore Road, Drimnagh, for the Walkinstown Association for People with an Intellectual Disability Ltd, trading as ‘WALK’, is also noted in the plans.

The council granted permission for the plans with a number of conditions, including the stipulation that shopfront glazing should not be used to provide additional advertisement and signage, and that the fascia signage shall comprise individually painted letters no greater than 40cm in height.

When contacted by The Echo, Liam’s Hardware confirmed that the shop will close at the end of August, after 32 years in the area.
