For a full in-depth overview of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), please see the HSE website by clicking HERE.

WITH confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) reaching double figures in Ireland, it is important to understand the facts surrounding the virus.

As per the HSE, people who are most at risk of contracting the virus are those who have been to an affected region in the previous 14 days or anyone who has been in close contact with a confirmed or probable case in the last 14 days and is experiencing symptoms.

WATCH:

Close contact with a confirmed case could mean, but is not limited to, spending more than 15 minutes face-to-face within a couple of metres of an infected person or living in the same accommodation as an infected person.

According to the World Health Organisations (WHO), the virus seems to start with a fever which is followed by a dry cough and breathing difficulties.

Preventing the spread of coronavirus can be helped by washing hands thoroughly, covering mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing/sneezing, avoid touching face with unwashed hands and cleaning frequently touched surfaces.

Although they do not know for sure, according to the HSE, those who are over 60-years-old, or have a long-term medical condition, or are pregnant are more likely at risk.

Those who have been to an affected area or have been in close contact with a confirmed or probable case who are experience symptoms are urged to isolate themselves, phone a local GP without delay or emergency services.
