DSD squads secure berths in Finals

DSD Men’s team made certain of their place in the National League Finals with a string of excellent results in Round Two in Athlone on Sunday, July 8.

Hiko Tonoso recorded a double win in the 1500m and 5000m while there were victories also for Emmet Jennings (3000m Steeplechase), Jerome Caprice (Walk) and club captain Joe Halwax  (110m hurdles and 400m hurdles) as well as their 4x100m relay team of David Dagg, James Holden, Ciaran Haverty and Mark Kavanagh and 4x400m relay team of Halwax, Paul O’Callaghan, Haverty and Dagg.

This team display helped make up for a somewhat under par first round in Belfast when many of their athletes were missing and sees them into the League Final in Tullamore on August 19.

In contrast, the DSD Women’s team enjoyed a very good first round in Belfast and took their foot off the gas a little last weekend, with several unable to attend.

Yet the team the club fielded was still good enough to finish in second place in Athlone and will also line out in the Final.

Among the DSD winners in the women’s section were Avril Dillon (100m Hurdles), Molly Hourihan (400m Hurdles), Maria McCambridge (3000m), Sinead Denny (200m) and Anita White Javelin.
