Round Towers Under 15s take divisional title

By Hayden Moore

ROUND TOWER’S Under 15 footballers capped a fine season by lifting the Division Six title after being handed a walkover by fellow league contenders Ballyfermot De La Salle on Sunday.

The match-up was pitched as a league decider, with the winner taking the spoils, but De La Salle did not field a team for the scheduled clash in Moyle Park.

Round Towers U15 League winners 2019

Round Tower GAA Club’s Under 15 footballers topped Division Six this season.

A focus on two-touch football during training proved the difference for the Clondalkin side in 2019 after they ran out winners in 12 out of 13 games.

Captain Darragh McCabe led by example at full-back while Luke Swayne, Alex Morrison and Mark Maguire formed a near-perfect spine of the team.

Liam Redmond, operating out of full-forward and flanked by Ciaran Kirk and Bailey Lawlor, was key in seeing the side to several massive victories that included two wins over Jude’s in which they tallied an impressive 26 goals.

Indeed, out of 10 games, Towers scored six or more goals in eight of them.

Their lowest scoring game came against Ballyfermot back in February, when they were dealt a 6-4 to 2-9 defeat.

Since March, Ballyfermot De La Salle have played only once out of eight scheduled matches after conceding three and being given the win four times.

Their last game was played back in August, when they beat St Jude’s 5-16 to 5-5.

Among the triumphant Round Towers panel was Under 14 pair Bailey Lawlor and the industrious Craig Moore, who plays for the Dublin Development Squads.
