Rovers remain out in front in race for IAFA League crown

SHAMROCK Rovers amputee team remain top of the IAFA National League after they carded another two big wins over Bohemians and Cork City at the midway point of the season.

The Hoops travelled to Galway where they picked up another six points in the latest stop in the series that saw Alan Wall net a total of five goals.

Shamrock Rovers extended their lead.

First up on the day was the Dublin derby in which Wall carded a hat-trick before the halftime break.

A further Kevan O'Rourke goal in the second half and a late reply from Bohemians saw the match finish up 4-1 leaving Rovers on a sound footing for their next outing against Cork.

In that match, the Hoops found themselves a goal down at the break, but again up stepped Wall to hit the net midway through the second half.

And with the clock ticking down, he produced a brilliantly-stuck volley into the bottom corner of the net to clinch maximum points for his side.

Speaking after the game Rovers manager Stuart Mc Sweeney said "Today the squad was really tested and we showed real character in our game against Cork to get two second half goals to win.

“Our levels against Bohemians where fantastic and our decision making in the final third was excellent.

“We are now at the halfway point of the season and we have put ourselves in a great position, but there are a lot of games still to be played and things at the top of the table can change very quickly.

“If we stick to our game plan and keep to our levels we will give ourselves a real chance" he insisted.

Rovers travel to Dalymount Park, for their next outing on July 27.
