Templeogue lose out to KUBS in Under 16 decider

KUBS Under 16 basketball team recorded an 85-65 victory over Templeogue to win the Under 16 Dublin Cup in the Oblate Hall on Saturday.

The sides had met in the league just two weeks beforehand, with Templeogue emerging the victors on that occasion, and the return of point guard Donal McKay proved the difference in the final as he notched up 17 points for his side.

KUBS took control of the game from the start, racing into a seven-point lead early on before a three pointer from Eoghan Armstrong helped Templeogue reduce the gap to four points at the end of the first quarter.

Eoin Barrett put in a dominating performance in the second quarter for KUBS, netting three baskets and two free throws for his side who, despite Matthew Harpers best efforts for Templeogue, led 39-28 at the break.

Templeogue came out re-invigorated after the break and enjoyed their best spell of the game in the third quarter.

Scott Kavanagh converted four free throws as well as two baskets for the side as they reduced the gap between the two teams to just four points midway through the quarter.

Yet Stephen Day was on hand to ensure that KUBS would not lose their grip on the prize, adding seven points to give the Raheny team a comfortable 11-point lead, with the score line at 58-47 heading into the fourth quarter of the match.

And the final period saw KUBS register an incredible 27 points, with center Rory Howe accounting for nine of them.

Still this Templeogue outfit never gave up, and registered 16 points of their own as Harper tried to inspire his team to a late revival that was not to be.
