‘If I could just start the year off positive’

By Hayden Moore

THE FINAL leader of Operation Transformation was revealed to be Sharon Gaffney when she was surprised with the news outside the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital.

Between work in the hospital as the Director of Finance and Organisation Services and running a busy home with her three children, Sharon has been neglecting her health and wellbeing.

Sharon lives in Drimnagh with her 15-year-old daughter Paige and 10-year-old twin sons, Max and Leo.

According to the RTÉ website, Sharon’s start weight is 15 stone 2.5 pounds and she is determined to get started and make 2021 her year.

Speaking after being surprised by RTÉ presenter Kathryn Thomas, Sharon spoke about what she was looking forward to the most.

“To start, to just start,” the 44-year-old exclaimed.

“It’s like you lose your motivation when you’re working and the kids and it goes work, kids, work, kids, work, kids.

“Then sure Covid doesn’t help anyway and that’s all you have is work and kids, and your little bit of track around Tymon Park when the kids are training.

She added: “It’s to start something and just get that motivation back that I’ve lost because I know I’ve lost it.

“It’s the first time I’ve turned around and said I’d take care of myself and that’s what pushed me into it because I tend to forget about me and just do everything else.

“I thought if I could start the year off positive that will just make it all go that much better.”

Sharon is joined by another local person as a leader on Operation Transformation this year, 32-year-old Clondalkin man Andrew Burke-Hannon.

The new series of Operation Transformation is on Wednesday nights at 9.35pm on RTÉ One and on RTÉ Player afterwards.
