Man (21) is charged with entering a building with intent to commit a burglary

THE state has been given more time to provide disclosure materials to the defence in the case of a man accused of burgling a house.

Tadhg Francis, aged 21, was remanded on continuing bail after his lawyer told Blanchardstown District Court disclosure had not been received yet.

Mr Francis, with an address at Kilmartin Drive, Tallaght is charged with entering a building with intent to commit a burglary at St Anne’s Terrace, Rathcoole. The charge is under Section 12 of the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.

The case had been adjourned previously and when it came back before Judge Gerard Jones, a lawyer for the defence said she had not received disclosure, which had been ordered.

Judge Jones put the case back to July.

At an earlier hearing, the court was told more than €1,435 worth of jewellery was taken and damage costing €2,050 was caused in the alleged burglary.

Outlining the state’s case, Sergeant Maria Callaghan told the court that on the morning of June 5, 2018, the alleged victim was notified by mobile phone of an alarm activation at his home.

He returned to his house as he was nearby at the time, and found the glass in the back patio door had been smashed, while two laptops and hard drives had been placed into the sink and were left under running water.

The intruders were still there and the man heard noises upstairs, but they left the scene. He later discovered jewellery had been stolen.

The accused was allegedly identified from CCTV, Sgt Callaghan said.
