Howard, a 28-year-old mother of three with an address at MacUilliam Avenue, Fortunestown Road, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to theft, breach of the peace and uninsured driving in three separate incidents.

The court heard Howard stole €100 worth of clothing at Penney’s, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre on November 29, 2019.

The court also heard Howard was stopped driving at the Naas Road, Dublin 22 in February 2019, while she was a disqualified driver.

On September 25 that year, gardai came upon a public order incident at Citywest Shopping Centre, when the accused was shouting abuse at members of the public.

She refused to give gardai her details and was arrested.

The accused had a difficult time following a family tragedy, her solicitor Lorraine Stephens said. A probation report was before the court and this was positive, she said.

Judge David McHugh said he had considered an “outright sentence” for the accused but he was prepared to take her mitigation at its highest.

He said he expected Howard to engage completely with the probation service.

He disqualified her from driving for four years on the no insurance charge, and fined her €100. The accused was put on a probation bond for the other charges.
