Sleeping bag support for Outreach project

THE community of Aylesbury has once again pulled it out of the bag when it comes to supporting those in need.

Last week, 100 sleeping bags paid for by the community were handed out to homeless people in Tallaght and the city centre.

The city centre sleeping bags were delivered to Reaching Out Homeless Outreach, a volunteer group that provides food, toiletries and clothes to those in need across the city.

Resident Linda Bland told The Echo that she approached Daly’s SuperValu in Aylesbury about buying sleeping bags in bulk – due to difficulties in sourcing good quality sleeping bags.

“The team at SuperValu were amazing,” Linda said.

“They bought in 100 sleeping bags at €14.50 each but kindly sold them to customers for €10.

“Customers bought a sleeping bag for €10 and donated it to the appeal.

“All of the sleeping bags were bought and donated by customers within two days.”

Linda added: “Thank you so much to the community and SuperValu Aylesbury for helping to keep the homeless warm this winter.

“SuperValu also has a food appeal bin in the shop.”

A collection is also being held in the car park of St Martin De Porres, Aylesbury on November 30 at 3pm.

People are invited to donate selection boxes and shoe boxes for boys and girls.

The Aylesbury community featured in The Echo back in December 2017 when residents united to put a homeless man, who regularly sought shelter at the local shops, into a hotel for Christmas.
