Tallaght couple seriously injured in road traffic crash in Tipperary

An elderly couple from Tallaght have been seriously injured in road traffic accident in Tipperary this evening.

The couple, who are believed to be in their 70s, were travelling on the old N7 when they were reportedly involved in a head on collision.

Emergency services had to cut the pair from the wreckage and they have been taken to University Hospital Limerick.

The conditions of the road at the time of the crash

Driving conditions were poor in the area due to heavy hail showers, with many drivers posting pictures of the treacherous state of the roads on social media.

The couple were airlifted to hospital, and the road remains closed.
