Tallaght is now the home of underwater hockey in Ireland

Are you interested in taking up a new sport, but dont' quite no where to start?

Tallaght is now home to Underwater Hockey in Ireland, a sport like no other.

Think "Ice Hockey at the bottom of a swimming pool" and you are some of the way there, but not quite!

It's fast, it's fun, and although sometimes furious, skill always beats brawn.

Equipped with a mask, snorkel, fins, and a special hockey stick, teams of six face each other at the bottom of a pool, with the aim of moving and passing the puck and ultimately scoring goals.

Timing your moves to the bottom of the pool, and controlling your breathing are key.

An experienced player can "flick" (or pass) the the 1.5Kg puck up to 4 metres!

September is beginner's month, and classes take place on Mondays at 8pm in Tallaght Leisure Centre.

You don't have to be a strong swimmer or even very fit, but you should be comfortable in the water.

The first four weeks are free, with equipment and training provided.

It's a mixed sport open to men and women 18+, and players can ultimately participate in tournaments across the country, including at the National Aquatic Centre, Cork, Belfast, the UK, and continental Europe.
