Tamhlacht or Tamlacht?

By Hayden Moore

AN EAGLED-EYED resident noticed last week that there is a disparity in the spelling of the Tallaght Luas stop in Irish.

With four signs at the stop in total, three of them read “Tamhlacht” while the other one reads “Tamlacht” – the former of which is the correct spelling.

The disparity was first pointed out by a Twitter user last Friday morning with the official Luas account saying that it has been reported to the relevant department.

The Echo reached out to Luas, which is operated by Transdev Ireland, for a comment.

In their reply they said that they are “working to have this sign urgently removed and replaced”.

At the time of going to print on Wednesday afternoon, the sign had not yet been replaced.
